September Meeting

Wow, did y'all miss a good time!
Sheryl, I'm sorry I didn't see your post about the Tunisian cables. I would have been VERY prepared. Can we put it on the agenda for October 18th?
Sheryl and I had a good time, but.......
what is going on? What can we do to improve and grow our chapter? Is the date wrong? The meeting place? The members? What can we offer to make your guild membership a more rewarding and enjoyable experience? What can we do to make people WANT to come?
We are ALL Westside Crochet Gang. So what do YOU want from YOUR guild experience?
I know that Jessica is studying for her Masters Certs and I would like to start. So is that something that would interest anyone else? Maybe we become the first chapter is Houston to have everyone Masters or Instructor Certifide? Yes, No?
We need feedback. Input, Input, Input!

  1. I forgot I would be out of town so I'm very very very sorry I missed the meeting.

I'm pretty flexible about meeting place and time because I can plan ahead for my husband to be home. Dunn Bros is fine with me, but maybe we need to have a more public meeting place to pique interest? I'll see if I can get an announcement published in the Grand Lakes newsletter. Perhaps we should advertise that there is no joining fee? We're a cheap thrill!

I'd love to have little skill-building sessions to learn techniques, like Tunisian cables, crochet jewelry, maybe even that nifty trick of Robyn Chachula's to move a buttonhole.

I'm not really interested in certification, as I don't really have time in my life right now to do the coursework or to do anything with the certification.

I'll think about this a little more and post when I can come up with something more.

  3. Been thinking about it and posted on Ravelry for folks who don't come here.

Advertising in the neighborhood newsletters is great! I do think we need a more public place - somewhere in La Centerra or move out to I-10 to attract folks who don't live in CR.

I like the Sunday afternoon because it isn't right after work so I'm not exhausted and grumpy.

There are 91 members on Hookin' Across Houston. I posted there to see if I could get interested in a city wide crochet meet up. It wouldn't be a guild activity - more of a Ravelry group activity (yes, Skully-Banned, that includes you!) where we could let others know about the groups.

My 2 cents worth and more.

  4. Yeah, maybe people are intimidated or somehow put off by calling it a "guild," like maybe it's too official or something. Perhaps if we emphasize that we're very laid-back that would help.

  5. I do think there is the anxiety that one has to crochet to a certain level to be a guild member. We are so, not snobby!

  6. Sorry, haven't been very good about checking here lately. *Saving link to work computer!* I like the Sunday afternoon timeframe. Location doesn't much matter too me, but of course I'd prefer it to stay somewhere in the Katy area... The last two months have been bad for me but I plan on improving my attendance in 2010. I have our group on Facebook too and we currently have 9 members there.
