November Monthly Meeting

Hello everyone!

Our monthly meeting is this Saturday, November 10, from 10am to noon at Yarntopia.  This month we’ll be talking about Quick Gift and Holiday Decorating  Ideas (46 days until Christmas!), in case you’re wanting to share the crochet love this holiday season.  I am working on a scarf with a ruffle yarn so I’ll do a quick demo on how to work with it.  It will also be a good time to work on your gifts away from the people you are making them for :o)  I have a dream of a Christmas tree decorated entirely in fiber-based ornaments, if you have patterns you like I’d love to hear about them.

Take care and I hope to see you Saturday!

Charity Afghan

At our September meeting, Amy shared a pattern for an afghan square written to be used for charity (more information about Krochet Krystal can be found on her blog http://krochetkrystal.blogspot.com/).  We agreed we'd like to make an afghan large enough for a teenager undergoing treatment at MD Anderson, using bright colors for the petals and black for the background.  Send me photos of your completed squares and I'll upload them to our Flickr group so they'll appear in our sidebar slideshow.  We need your help, so dig out those bright scraps and make some squares!

Send photos or pattern requests to me at west.side.crochet AT gmail DOT com.

August Guild Meeting

Our August meeting is coming up on Saturday, August 11, from 10am-noon at Yarntopia. We will be talking about Tunisian crochet this month. Amy and Sheryl will be bringing books, samples and hooks for you to see and Amy will be demonstrating the technique. Sheryl will be available for further instruction if you are interested in exploring it more.
If you’d like to give Tunisian a try, you can bring a Tunisian hook or a regular inline crochet hook (a hook with a straight shaft, no flare or thumbrest). If you don’t have one, we’ll have some available for you to use. If you’ve used this technique before and want to bring your finished project to share, please do!
Designers are making some amazing items using this technique, and it’s so easy to learn. We hope you can join us!

May Meeting

The May meeting falls on Mother's Day.  If you are able to attend that day, let me know and I'll be happy to have some yarn time to celebrate my motherhood!  Sheryl has had a last-minute out of town trip come up so we'll be meeting at Bolli Brothers.  She and I have schedule conflicts for the remaining weekends in May, but if anyone wants to get together another weekend this month let me know and maybe we can arrange for you to get together at Bolli Brothers on another Sunday.

September 11 Meeting

Hello, crocheters! Our September meeting is coming up on Sunday the 11th. We welcome crocheters of all skill levels, please feel free to come try out a meeting. This month, let's talk about what our favorite yarns are. Maybe you love it because it's inexpensive and comes in a zillion colors. Maybe you love it because you found just the right project to highlight it's best qualities. Maybe you spun or dyed it yourself. And maybe it's so lovely and decadent that you haven't found just the right project for it yet. Whatever the reason, bring a sample and make us fall in love with it too!

Bring a project to work on andthose finished projects to show of to an incredibly appreciative audience. New to crochet and don't have something to show? No worries, we'd be happy to see your knitting/tatting/weaving/spinning/other fiber art too!

Those interested in officially joining the guild, remember we will be collecting our annual dues this month.

August 14, 2011 Meeting

Instead of meeting at Yarntopia this month we will be meeting at the Bolli Brothers Pizza in the same shopping center, just two doors down.

We will be discussing some guild business and the program this month is to bring your favorite crochet book(s) and give a mini-review as to why you love them. We'll pass them around and maybe we'll all be adding some items to our book wish list!

As always, crocheters of all levels welcome. Hope to see you there!

March Meeting

Sorry for the delay here.  After talking with Kimberly, Amy aka Lola, and Debra, we have decided to host the multi guild meeting this month at Ikea in Houston.  It is centrally located and has a large area in the cafe where we can sit and crochet.  The food (including desert) is good and cheap.  I have invited our friends from Humble along with the folks from H-Town Crocheters.

We will meet at our usual day and time - March 21st from 2-4.

Hope to see you there.

2010 WSCG Meetings

Good afternoon all! I wanted to ask whether we will be doing 2nd or 3rd Sundays in 2010 for our meetings? I am trying to be good and get them set up on Facebook...

Thanks!

Freeform Fun

Just wanted to show that I can finish projects - few and far between as they seem to be. I'm constantly knitting or crocheting but seem to have so little to show for it.

I wore this scarf over the weekend. I LOVE it.

5 days and counting - see you all Sunday!

Me Again

The Yahoo Group is set up - head on over to join.

Thankful

I am thankful for yarn, knitting and crochet because they have led me to some of the nicest people in the world.

I'm going to try a Yahoo! group for us. That seems to be a little more interactive than the blog as postings get sent to members. I'm not going to make it a closed group 'cuz we want our info to reach the largest audience possible.

I wrote on the CGOA group that I am going to move the all Houston gathering to March to coincide with NaCroMo. This also gives us more time to plan. I am looking forward to the group next week and hope we have a full turn out.

Anyone up for charity crochet in January? I'd love for us to gather a collection of scarves for the vets in VA facilities around the country. Check out their site and think about it. Soft acrylic or acrylic blend yarns are perfect so the cost is reasonable. I have copies of the patterns and will bring them with me so we can talk about it. This is near and dear to my heart and I'd love to give back to these folks.

MEETING DATE CHANGE!

Amy & I voted yesterday (at the regular meeting) to change the meeting date for the next 2 months.
November and December meetings will be on the 2nd Sunday of each month.

Monday, October 12, 2009

Argghhh!

Ok, now I have a conflict with October, November & possibly December! Any chance we can change to 2nd or 4th weekend of the month? I know it is quite narcissistic to ask everyone to adjust for me - but I really do want to be a part of the group! Take a vote this month and let me know.

October Meeting

Yo!
It's almost meet-up time again!
This is going to be a hard week for me (and very full), but I'm hoping (and praying) that the meds kick-in before Sunday. If they do not, I will probably be in bed recuperating. As always, I have the feeling that if I am absent, there will be a bumper crowd with lots and lots of new faces. But that's just my paranoia talking.
Hope to see y'all at Dunn Bros on Fry Road at 2 pm!

Tunisian Cable class at Yarntopia

Sheryl is teaching a Tunisian Cable class at Yarntopia on Tuesday, October 6th.

Here's what she has to say about it "I have become hopelessly addicted to tunisian cables and textural patterns. From the cable strip we will be making in class you will be able to choose to make a hat, neck warmer or scarf. Give us a call to sign up. The class is from 6-8 and the cost is $20 + materials."

I'm pretty sure I will be able to go...hope to see some of you there, too!

September Meeting

Wow, did y'all miss a good time!
Sheryl, I'm sorry I didn't see your post about the Tunisian cables. I would have been VERY prepared. Can we put it on the agenda for October 18th?
Sheryl and I had a good time, but.......
what is going on? What can we do to improve and grow our chapter? Is the date wrong? The meeting place? The members? What can we offer to make your guild membership a more rewarding and enjoyable experience? What can we do to make people WANT to come?
We are ALL Westside Crochet Gang. So what do YOU want from YOUR guild experience?
I know that Jessica is studying for her Masters Certs and I would like to start. So is that something that would interest anyone else? Maybe we become the first chapter is Houston to have everyone Masters or Instructor Certifide? Yes, No?
We need feedback. Input, Input, Input!
